Dairy farm profitability to be impacted by climate projections
On current 2040 climate projections all three farms modelled in Dairy Australia’s three year-long Dairy Business for Future Climates (DBfFC) research project would be less profitable if they continued to farm exactly as they do today.
Increasing profit, reducing emissions
The Profitable Dairying project has set out to demonstrate how good farm business management reduces greenhouse gases per litre of milk. Consequently, a series of videos (currently 28) have been developed to profile practices that improve the efficiency of dairy farm systems through adoption of emissions management practices that have win:win outcomes for farm profit and the environment.
Smarter energy use on-farm
Since 2012 around 1,400 on-farm energy assessments had been conducted on dairy farms across Australia covering all aspects of energy use in the dairy. More than half (55%) of the assessments identified on-farm savings of up to $2,000 per year.
